Wildlife Safari Website Redesign — Beyond Wild

How a Pune wildlife safari company replaced a ten-year-old site that Google could barely read with a fast, search-ready website and a content system their own team runs: tours, departures, enquiries and tailor-made proposals in one place.

The Problem

Beyond Wild has been running expert-led tiger, leopard, African and Himalayan safaris out of Pune since 2008, and has taken tens of thousands of guests into the wild. Its website had not kept up. Every page carried the same title, so Google could not tell a Tadoba safari from a Kenya camp. Images were served from expiring storage links, so the photos in search results broke. There was no structured data, no page per destination, no sitemap, and a blog that had not been updated since 2020. Our audit scored it 2/10 for technical SEO, 3/10 for on-page SEO and 1/10 for readiness for AI search tools like ChatGPT and Google's AI answers. And every change, from a new departure date to a price, needed a developer.

The Solution

We started with an audit and a clickable prototype, then built the production site on a lightweight PHP and MySQL stack with a full admin panel behind it. The site is organised the way people plan a safari: parks and places, then tours, then dates. It serves two kinds of trip, customisable private safaris quoted per guest and scheduled group departures with fixed dates, and every page, photo, price, policy and call to action is now editable by the Beyond Wild team. Enquiries land in the admin, turn into branded day-by-day proposals with a shareable link, and trigger email acknowledgements automatically. Before launch we mapped every old URL to its new home so the site kept its search history on the day it went live.

Audit first, then a prototype the client could click

Before writing any production code we audited the old site page by page: titles, image hosting, URL structure, schema, content freshness and how an AI assistant would describe the business if asked. The result was a redesign blueprint that set out what to fix and in what order.

From that we built a high-fidelity prototype of every key page: homepage, destination, itinerary, scheduled tour, tour calendar, experts, journal, make-your-trip form and the customer proposal. The client reviewed real pages in a browser rather than static mockups, and the approved prototype became the design system for the build.

A site built around how people plan a safari

Visitors start with a park or a place, such as Tadoba, Kanha, Masai Mara or Ladakh. Each has its own page with a write-up, quick facts, a photo gallery, FAQs and the tours that visit it. Homepage category tiles filter the destination list directly, and a search box on every list gets people to the right park quickly.

  • check_circle29 destinations across 7 countries, each publishable when its copy is ready
  • check_circleCustomisable private trips with comfort tiers and no fixed public price
  • check_circleScheduled group departures with a fixed price table and dates
  • check_circleDay-by-day itineraries, inclusions, supplements and travel info on every tour

A tour calendar the team updates from a spreadsheet

Beyond Wild plans its group season in a spreadsheet. Rather than asking the team to retype it, we wrote a parser that reads the sheet as it is (tours down the side, months across the top, date ranges in the cells) and loads it into the calendar. The first import brought in 88 departures across 21 tours with no failures, and the calendar now shows 95 upcoming departures across 11 months, each with its own page.

From enquiry to a tailor-made proposal

Most Beyond Wild guests want a trip built around them, so the enquiry flow is the heart of the site. The Plan My Trip form asks for dates, party size, comfort level and where they want to go, and it remembers the tour a visitor came from. Every enquiry lands in the admin with its source, and both the guest and the team get an email straight away.

From there the team creates a proposal in one click. It is seeded from a tour, then tailored: day-by-day itinerary, stays, inclusions, pricing with tax and deposit, cancellation terms and a photo gallery. The guest receives a private, branded link to their quote with a reference number and can accept it online.

An admin panel the client actually runs

The goal was a website the Beyond Wild team could run without calling us. Tours, departures, destinations, hotels, journal articles, team profiles, guest reviews, policies, the homepage slideshow and even the announcement bar are all managed from one admin panel.

Photos get particular care. Every image slot has a fixed shape, so uploading opens a crop frame in that exact shape and the team decides what stays in the picture, not the browser. We imported 377 of the client's photos into 34 galleries, 13 journal articles and the client's full FAQ and itinerary content, so the site launched with real content rather than placeholders.

  • check_circleTour editor with pricing, supplements and Standard or Custom cancellation policies
  • check_circleJournal editor with categories, author box and related articles
  • check_circleGuest reviews with an optional Google reviews import
  • check_circleEmail templates the client can rewrite in Mailjet without a release

Ready for Google and for AI search

Every page now has its own title, description, canonical URL and social preview image. Destinations, tours and departures carry structured data, so search engines and AI assistants can read the dates, prices and places directly. The site publishes a sitemap and an llms.txt file, and names and allows the major AI crawlers.

Speed was part of search readiness too. A pre-launch pass cut the homepage HTML from 543 KB to 83 KB, stopped the slideshow loading photos nobody could see yet, and removed the one render-blocking font request, so the first photo paints sooner on a phone connection.

A cutover that kept every old link alive

The new site replaced an old application on the same domain, and the two shared no URLs at all. The old site had no sitemap, so we crawled it to build the list: 112 URLs, including package pages that were already dead but still linked or indexed. Each one now redirects to its closest live page.

Where the new page exists, the redirect is permanent. Where it is still a draft, visitors go to the section list for now, and the redirect upgrades itself the day that page is published. After launch we checked the URLs Google still listed and converted the remainder to permanent redirects, so the site kept the search history it had built up over a decade.

Security and hardening before launch

A pre-launch review closed the gaps that usually only show up after an incident: private folders and configuration blocked from the web, error details hidden from visitors, security headers added, the API locked to known origins, and rate limits on login and every public form. We also removed an unused seat-booking feature rather than leave an open door to data nobody was checking.
